ICLEI's California Initiatives

• Bay Area Climate Protection Workshops
  ICLEI is working with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (Air District) to build capacity within the local governments within the nine Bay Area Counties to demonstrate leadership in climate protection.  More workshops will be organized for the remaining counties in the Bay Area and other topics will be selected as well (climate action planning, general plans, transportation projects etc).  For more information, please contact Jonathan Strunin.
  
  
• Alameda County Waste Management Authority, StopWaste.org
  ICLEI and StopWaste.org have been working together since 2006 on the Alameda County Climate Protection Project, which brings together all 14 cities of Alameda County as well as the county government.  With dedicated support from ICLEI staff, ten cities have completed GHG emissions inventories, with four of those cities having set GHG emissions reduction targets in the process of working on their climate action plans.  For more information, please contact Jonathan Strunin.
   
• Contra Costa County
  With resources from the San Francisco Foundation, ICLEI is implementing the Contra Costa County Climate Protection Project.  ICLEI is working together with the Air District to gather community-level data for participating jurisdictions and will hold an inventory workshop and an action plan workshop to ensure coordinated, ongoing local government input in California emissions reduction efforts.  For more information, please contact Xico Manarolla. 
   
• Marin County
  ICLEI has been working with Marin County communities for the past three years. With the support of the Marin Community Foundation, ICLEI completed GHG emissions inventories for six cities and the county.  Currently, ICLEI and its Marin County partners are formalizing a regional network to support climate work in the remaining local governments and public agencies in Marin, including towns and unincorporated areas.  For more information, please contact Wesley Look.
  
  
• Silicon Valley
  ICLEI has recently undertaken an exciting new regional project to lead the development of inventories for 28 communities in Silicon Valley over the next year. ICLEI will be working in partnership with Sustainable Silicon Valley and Joint Ventures Silicon Valley Network to support the Silicon Valley Climate Protection Task Force.  For more information, please contact Jonathan Strunin.
