Northwest Region
Welcome!
The Pacific Northwest Regional Capacity Center is proud to work
with its 50 member cities and counties throughout the region. From the
cities to the suburbs to the rural communities, a broad range of local
governments are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and
energy use while saving taxpayer dollars and enhancing community
livability.
We’re excited to highlight and share the lessons
of our local governments’ landmark climate protection and adaptation
efforts. In addition to Mayor Nickels’ pioneering effort to encourage
over 700 U.S. Mayors to sign on to the goals of the Kyoto Protocol,
Seattle City Light is the only carbon-neutral utility in the country.
Ashland, Oregon, has one of the country’s largest municipal solar power
projects and Boise, Idaho, has one of the nation’s most extensive
municipal geothermal heating systems. Bellingham, Washington, is one of
the nation’s top municipal purchasers of green power. The list of
solutions being implemented by local governments in the Northwest is
growing each day.
Pacific Northwest Regional Capacity Center has provided support to ICLEI’s growing network of members in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.
ICLEI extends our greatest appreciation to the
City of Seattle for hosting our Pacific Northwest Regional Capacity
Center in the Office of Intergovernmental Relations in City Hall.
Thank you also to King County, Washington, Executive Ron Sims and Anchorage, Alaska, Mayor Mark Begich representing the region on the ICLEI USA Board of Directors.
