Position Announcement

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability U.S.A., Inc. (ICLEI U.S.A.), the U.S. affiliate of a global non-profit membership association of local governments working to achieve climate protection and other sustainable development goals seeks a dynamic and talented IT Manager with at least 5 years applicable experience.

ICLEI U.S.A. is a service organization transforming the way it communicates, builds relationships and partners with its members and institutions.  We have launched a new service portal website. The website will shortly integrate a customer relationship management system (CRM), offer knowledge libraries of ICLEI toolkits and software applications and facilitate networking between local governments while promoting local government leadership and action. The IT Manager will work collaboratively with the ICLEI USA Webmaster and support the plans of the US Services Director, Communications Director and Program Directors to maximize the value of the service portal and the usage of IT for service delivery. The IT Manager reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Initial salary placement is based on the ICLEI U.S.A. compensation plan for Managers, with a hiring salary point between $65,000 and $75,000, commensurate with experience.  This is a full-time, regular position that includes an excellent benefits package.

The job will be based at the ICLEI U.S.A. Oakland office.

Resumes without clear demonstration of project management, web application and general support experience as detailed in the following sections will not be considered.

Project Management
The IT Manager will be responsible for managing the deployment of vendor supplied web-based solutions as well as making enhancements to existing systems. Responsibilities in this area include project planning and management, budgeting, testing and training. The IT Manager will work with staff and vendors to ensure developments and deployments are well planned and successfully implemented.  Additionally, he or she will support efforts to develop IT strategies improving service delivery.  In particular, the IT Manager will work with staff to identify new CRM application opportunities by researching, documenting and analyzing key service and development processes.  He or she will then effectively realize those CRM opportunities by working with teams to resource/ implement the projects.

Web Applications
The IT Manager will provide training and ongoing technical support (daily and on-call) for a portfolio of web-based applications and solutions.  Support will include report building, data quality and integrating new applications and data sources.  General experience in database administration, managing data to accomplish business needs and providing client consulting services is required.  ICLEI seeks a candidate with experience in the administration of CRM systems; knowledge and experience with Salesforce is ideal.  ICLEI also seeks a candidate with experience in the administration of enterprise resource planning systems; knowledge and experience with Tenrox is ideal.  Further, a candidate with experience in the administration of open desktop applications (Central Desktop) and off-site storage solutions is preferred.

General Support
The IT Manager will provide complex technical support (daily and on-call) for desktops, laptops, data service enabled PDA/phones, network systems, phone systems and common business applications. Extensive knowledge of and experience supporting Microsoft Windows (Mac OS beneficial) and Microsoft Office is required. Strong knowledge of and experience configuring and supporting handheld devices, managing networks and troubleshooting connectivity issues is ideal. Other responsibilities include: Inventory of hardware/software; Imaging of desktops/laptops using Ghost; Configuring and supporting network printers; Backups; Updates of anti-virus/security and operating systems.

Position Requirements:

  • This position requires strong information system and information technology development and deployment skills.  If you do not have this experience, please do not send your resume. Hands-on experience in a rapidly growing organization is essential; experience with a national expansion is ideal.
  • This position requires full time attendance and availability at the ICLEI U.S.A. headquarters office in Oakland, CA during regular business hours; the IT Manager will have the ability to be on-call for weekend and off hour support.
  • The IT Manager must be able to work independently and have the ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
  • A bachelor degree or equivalent experience in IT and at least 5 years in information technology is required.  Certifications by Microsoft and other applicable vendors are preferred. Customer service qualifications are a plus.
