Preparing for Climate Change: A Guidebook for Local, Regional and State Governments
Preparing
for Climate Change: A Guidebook for Local, Regional and State
Governments” (a.k.a. the Adaptation Guidebook) is a framework that
communities can use to prepare for and adapt to regional climate
changes. The guidebook is designed to take the mystery out of planning
for climate impacts by specifying the practical steps and strategies
that can put into place now to build community resilience into the
future. It was co-authored by the Climate Impacts Group at the
University of Washington, King County, Washington, Executive Ron Sims
and King County’s global warming team. ICLEI-Local Governments for
Sustainability is a contributing partner and is distributing the
guidebook nationally to its local government members.

the commitments for climate protection called out in the U.S. Mayors'
Climate Protection Agreement (MCPA). The handbook offers initial steps
cities can take to effectively engage in meeting their emissions
reduction target and includes policies, actions, tools, best practices
and resources.

Natural
Capitalism Solutions developed this manual that includes best practices and
practical information for taking action. ICLEI-USA and selected ICLEI members served as peer reviewers. The manual includes examples from local government members of the ICLEI network.
