Invest in Local Climate Protection

Implement Local Climate Action

Local leaders around the world are motivated to lead climate protection efforts but lack the necessary funds by far.

Action at the local level is the most effective way to mitigate the effects of climate change. Local leaders around the world recognize that they must transform their cities to consume 30% less energy by 2030 and emit 80% fewer greenhouse gases by 2050. These actions will deliver positive and myriad benefits—but they simply cannot be accomplished without a major capital investment.

The Solution

Empower Local Leaders with Funding
Now is the time to create a Local Climate Action Fund.

Through a Local Climate Action Fund, local authorities will finally have the means to finance energy efficiency and climate protection projects. In addition, the Fund—with an initial objective set at $100 million—will produce income for its sponsors over the long term.

The Opportunity

Partner with ICLEI to Create the Fund
ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability USA seeks partners to capitalize, launch, and manage the Fund. A bank sponsor will deliver investment management, fund operating, and administrative services. Capital will be solicited from donors and governments.

By partnering with ICLEI, you will demonstrate your commitment to climate protection. ICLEI is already the leader in local climate protection efforts, with 1,000 local government members worldwide and 500 in the United States.
