New York City school gets multi-use green roof

The Achievement

The St. Simon Stock Elementary School of the Bronx in New York, NY has built a green roof that provides a green oasis on top the school where kids learn about birds, bees and butterflies, while also helping the environment. The garden cools the roof in the summer and soaks up tens of thousands of gallons of rainwater that otherwise would have flowed into strained city sewers.
