Ellensburg, WA, creates solar community financing program

The Achievement

In Ellensburg, WA,  community members can buy “credit” or “share” in a community financing program for solar energy. In exchange for each share, a customer gets a dollar of credit on their electric bill for the value of the electricity produced by the solar system. The city has been able to finance the purchase of all solar panels this way, and the city’s Conservation and Renewable energy program funds the infrastructure, operations and maintenance, and development and marketing costs.
